Joan (Knoll) Hammeren
Joan was ND State Cross-Country Champion for 5 years in a row. That is a record. I also believe that it may tie a national record as I do not believe any high school girl has ever won six State cross country championships in a row.

All SEC in Cross-Country in College in 1987.
All-American (D 1) in 1500 meter in 1987.
Most memorable running event: "Probably in 1987 when I placed 3rd in the 1500 meters in Oklahoma City at the NCAA Track and Field Championships. I think that I had to do a few 1500 meter races in the days before the actual final race to qualify which seemed crazy for a distance event. It was unbelievable to become an All-American for the first time. Best part of it was that both of my parents were there for the race!"
Favorite Place to Run: "I run along Cherry Creek in Denver and it's beautiful for being within the City. I see a lot of wildlife. Favorite when I visit Bismarck is along the Missouri River on the trail from Pioneer Park to Sertoma Park."
When Did You Start Running? "At 10 years old in Summer Track Program in Bismarck."
Favorite Race: Bolder Boulder on Memorial Day in Boulder, CO.
Currently runs about 25 miles per week in Denver. Recently married.
