Honors and Achievements
I have competed the last 15 years in triathlon and duathlon as well as USCF cycling and roadraces.
Competed for the US on Team USA for both triathlon and duathlon. Received a bronze medal for duathlon in the 35-39 age group in Germany and 6th in 35-39 age group in triathlon in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Competed with Team USA in Spain, Montreal and the US. Named age group Captain in 1998.
Chosen to train at the Olympic Training Center in 1992 with the US Women's Cycling team.
Named Prairie Rose Games Athlete of the Year and also Sportscaster's and Sportswriter's Athlete of the Year.
Qualified for the Olympic Trials in the 40K time trial and placed 15 out of 102 in the Trials in Altoona, PA.
I have had some wonderful opportunities and honors. I feel incredibly blessed to have had a lot of fun and good fortune in the sport.
I also love to cross country ski and really enjoy teaching fitness classes at the Women's Health Center. I have found that cycling, yoga and strength training have really been helpful in keeping my running strong and more injury-free.
One of my goals every year is to help motivate or inspire other women into trying a new sport or trying racing. I was never a very "natural" athlete and really feel that if I can accomplish things, anybody can! I love to compete, but it is really the day-to-day benefits and the friendships developed along the way that are really important to me. I really enjoy the public speaking opportunities I have had to educate and inspire folks into developing a healthier lifestyle.
One of my favorite quotes is by Sophie Swetchine:
"providence has hidden a charm in difficult undertakings which is appreciated only by those who dare to grapple with them."
I also love Winston Churchill's quote:
"If you are going through Hell...keep going!"
