Current running activities
Still running. I usually run 1 marathon and a few other races each year.
Most memorable running event
This would have to be the 1985 NAIA National Cross Country meet in Kenosha, WI. The course was a lake since it had rained quite a bit leading up to the race. It was maybe 40 degrees and quite windy. More of a test against the elements than a race. It definitely favored runners (mudders) from the north. I had a pretty good race finishing 32nd, 4 seconds off All-American. That was a little disappointing, but a good way to end my cross country career.
Favorite place to run.
The trails along the Missouri River and the parks in Bismarck.
Favorite workout
Mile repeats or 1000 m repeats
What started you running?
I just started running as a kid on my paper route. It made me feel good and it was something that I had some success in and that just kept me going.
Favorite race in or out of ND
Run for the Border - Pembina, ND
You run in ND, MN and Canada all during a 12K race. Neat idea, flat course, good food.
Other activities or workout.
Lift weights, golf, play with my kids.
I've been running on the ND National Guard Marathon team at the Lincoln, NE Marathon each May. Qualified for the All-Guard team in 1999 to run the Marine Corp Marathon that year, but couldn't go because of injury.
